Great thread so far.
I still have low self-esteem, but it's improving with time. Learning to not judge my worth based on trivial matters is hard now, but we all have to learn to imbrace our own personality, with it's flaws. :)
in this book on mind control cults and recovering from abusive relationships that my wife and i are reading titled , " take back your life " by janja lalich & madeleine tobias - it discusses in detail how damage we've received from cults or abusive relationships stays with us after we exit .
in the chapter " coping with emotions " it states some interesting things under the subheading " loss of self esteem ".. it states regarding after leaving a cult ( jw's, scientology, etc.
) on pg.

i recently read an article in my local newspaper which essentially stated that single mothers were generally bad mothers and that they needed a man in the relationship.
not significant other, just a man.
i guess there are nosingle mothers who are lesbians!

I recently read an article in my local newspaper which essentially stated that single mothers were generally bad mothers and that they needed a man in the relationship. Not significant other, just a man. I guess there are nosingle mothers who are lesbians! The article also insisted they must be married- as if a few papers somehow meant domestic bliss and stability. It was also implied that mothers who were young and single were always much too immature to be mothers, and that fathers were needed to prevent abuse. Also, the comparison between Casey Anthony and immature mothers who make mistakes was made quite clearly.
What are your opinions?
growing up as a jw born-in during the 1980s i distinctly remember cutting my tounge.
i was afraid to swallow my blood, thinking that if i even swallowed one drop i woudn't make it to the new system.
so i kept spitting the blood out.
Even as a JW I've been fascinated with blood. I was afraid of swallowing it sometimes, but not other times. I actually enjoyed the taste and secretely bit my lip and the inside of my cheek occasionally to get it. Recently, I popped my bleeding finger into my mouth to lick off some blood, without thinking, and freaked a JW out. Oops.
...well that's what the law says.
to today is my oldest son's 18th birthday.
part if me is slightly incredulous cuz it really doesn't seem like 18+ years, they've flown by.
CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
as someone with mild social anxiety, i don't.

i'm sorry if this has already been asked!.
